The communication these days mainly include the emails which reach the recipient instantly irrespective of his physical location. Also popular these days are PC to phone calls through VoIP in which case you are sure that the other end has received information which is not totally sure in case of emails or sms. People also use free international call forwarding which can save money. Many companies these days use 1 800 toll free numbers.

Its all about the communication in these modern days, but there was time when we were dependent on postal department to deliver even a small bit of information, later came telegrams, telephones and faxes. Free faxing online is available today, but most of the companies don’t use fax machines at all.

Black Fax is one of the most popular way used in the past to harass the recipient. Black faxing was mainly employed by fired employees, unsatisfied customers / clients, competitors who missed a business opportunity etc. Black faxing is done by sending a black sheet of paper through fax and the intention is to finish off all the toner ink present in the recipient’s fax machine. This used to work greatly during initial days and later on fax machines got advanced and started avoiding such problems to occur.

A much advanced version is black fax attack in which the sender simply use a single sheet of black paper rolled and taped end to end so that the fax is sent unlimitedly until either the toner ink or the paper roll ends at the receiver end.

This is similar to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on internet which mainly target high traffic and successful sites by hackers. You may also compare it to mass spam emails.
