Test & Improve Performance of Slow Loading Website to Fast Website

It is a proven fact that the web page loading speed has a direct impact on the visitors experience with the website and increase in bounce rate. Hence it is the duty of every blogger and webmaster to keep their website optimized for performance. The performance of the website is dependent on various factors, few are under our control and few are not. A wise move is to optimize wherever we can. A little knowledge about code would greatly help.
Measuring the user experience on own machine is the first option for everyone, but if you have a slow internet connection speed, even the fastest website loads slow on your machine. What you experience will not be the same experience for anyone else on the internet. So, its recommended to use standard tools to measure internet speed of website. Tools like Pingdom will tell you which request is taking long and slowing down the website, but just removing that request might not be the complete solution all the time.
Few of the solution to improve webpage loading include web image optimization techniques or identifying and removing bulky mods or wordpress plugins that slow down blog. Identifying such plugins is quite difficult, best way is to install wordpress locally and trying each plugin at once for all plugins you use on live site. Sometimes, some resources (like jQuery) will be shared amongst multiple plugins – need to take care here.

We always value the advise that come from horse’s mouth. Page Speed Online from Google labs is a nice tool which analyzes your webpage loading based on various factors and generates suggestions which can help you increase webpage performance. In this process, it also generates a speed score which is your webpage performance score out of a maximum of 100.
Page Speed Online also provides details on all issues with the webpage provided. It is categorized into high, medium and low priority. They also have a mobile performance test which mainly focuses on webpage performance on smartphones. As smartphones are used widely these days, we need to keep them in mind as well. This tool does not provide breakdown on duration of each request, if you are interested in that, you can try other webpage speed measurement tools.
You might be interested to check if your webpages load properly on all browsers. Also, website uptime monitoring is a must if you have not done that yet.
