Make Free Worldwide Calls to Any Number with VoIP

Well, this is not a hack, but the method I discovered long back to make free calls to any number in any country (including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc). This way of calling worldwide included the toktumi service as the one which can get you free US incoming number. Though I did not try this time, I hope you will do it (if interested) and share the result through comments.

I am not sharing the exact procedure right here, but please read the mods I tried on previous posts.

Read and understand clearly the jajah voip service to make free calls.
Read the tutorial and get a free US incoming phone number. Even if you are in US, I would recommend this.
Now, in the first point of first tutorial, please replace the number you obtained with toktumi with the number you registered using the second step here.

I did not try this as I had no intention to make calls Please try out yourself and share experience about the call duration and voice quality.

Note 1: I checked the jajah website and found they still give 5 free minutes for calling to any country / number. And the US number technique is still the latest one.

Note 2: This calling is initiated with PC, but you will be connected from phone to phone. But here, you are using soft phone as your receiver, you need to keep it on while making these calls.

This cool service is offered by Toktumi free call service, whose service was used once along with jajah to make free worldwide international calls. Now, what you need to do is go to Toktumi website and sign up for free 1 month trial. Here you will get option to pick either a free US local number of toll free number. Here you will choose toll free number and pick a 800 number [These numbers actually go like 1 888 and not 1 800, but 800 number is common term for tollfree] of your choice and continue with signup.

You will need to complete a sign up form with your mail id and complete the process. After the initial registration process, you will need to confirm your cell phone number. They will make a test call to your number so as to confirm.

Once everything is done properly, you will have your toll free number and you can start receiving unlimited incoming calls. Also you are not charged anything to make unlimited calls to US and Canada. This service works on a forwarding basis. If someone calls your this number, the call will be forwarded to your cell phone.

How to Obtain a Free US Incoming Number – DID Phone through VoIP

If you are an internet user outside US and want to save some money for your friends who want to call from US, here is how you can obtain a free US incoming number [DID - Direct Inward Dialing]. Here we shall make use of different third party VoIP services in order to obtain a free incoming US phone number. Long back almost an year ago, we could use toktumi to get free number, but soon, they disabled registrations to new accounts and these days they have restricted new registration to US residents only. Currently there are NO services I could find which provides you an US number, and hence this long procedure to follow.

Lets move on to the procedure to obtain the required.

1. Goto CallCentric and signup for a free account. This is applicable for any geographic location and anyone can signup for free to get a SIP phone account. If you already have a SIP phone number, you can skip to step3.

2. With this, you will obtain yourself a SIP phone [Session Initiation Protocol] account. Login to CallCentric to find out your SIP phone number. You need not have to configure your softphone software to proceed to the next step.

3. Next sign up with IPKall to get a US phone number in Washington State – Area code: 206, 253, 425. Fill the details as below. If you use your SIP number other than callcentric, enter details accordingly. Observe the account details comparing with the above image.

The details will be verified and you will receive a mail containing your US incoming number. If you are going to leave it idle for 30 days, your account will be reset with ipKall. If someone calls to your this number, your softphone will get connected.

If you are having friends in US, the best way to communicate them is by using iCall to Call US free. And the main reason to publish this post is to help VoIP enthusiasts to find an easy way to tryout different services which require a US local number as mandatory for signup.

Spice / Idea Free Unlimited Calls

It has been a great fight seen among the Indian telcos. Idea Cellular has now already started free unlimited call offer for different states in India. Now, it is the turn of Karnataka.

With this new free unlimited calls offer, Spice / Idea users of Karnataka can make free calls to other local Spice / Idea subscribers from 11pm to 7am and there is no limit for time of call. Users can obtain this offer by e-recharging for INR 49/-.

Well, this plan is applicable only for e22 or e23 lifetime tariff plans only. Other prepaid users can currently avail the talktime promos of Rs.222/- or Rs. 333/- for full talk time value.

Idea also introduced unlimited free calls for Andhra Pradesh users, but this is for prepaid users and to avail this offer, you need to recaharge for Rs. 74/- and the time to make calls is 11pm to 6am.

This plan is limited only for 30 days and in other words, you need to pay Rs. 49 for each month to avail this offer continually.

How to Test Components of Sony Ericsson Phone

Like any consumer electronic product, mobile phones too sometimes behave in an inappropriate way. Here we shall deal with how to test different services / components of a Sony Ericsson mobile phone. With this, you will be able to test different hardware components like Main Display, LED / Illumination, Keypad / Keyboard, Speaker, Earphone, Microphone, Vibrator, Camera, Flash LED, Memory Stick, FM Radio etc. This works for most of the handsets though I am unsure about the low end models.

There is one secret menu in the Sony Ericsson phone which most of the users are not aware of. It can be accessed with a serial key press in a specific order (secret code). Here we go:

Press > * < < * < * . If you cannot follow the symbols, please have a look at the following figure and you will understand.

Once you press this key sequence, you will be presented with a menu which has options like Service Info, Service Tests and Text Labels. Select Service Tests. Now you are up with the menu to test different components of your phone. Different components are tested different way and you will not find it difficult to carry over the process.

Sony Ericsson: Backup Contacts into Memory Stick Instantly

Sony Ericsson, being one of the popular mobile phone brands has a good occupancy in the mobile market. It is also true that in spite of very good features, there are more problems associated with that compared with Nokia. I have been using Sony Ericsson W810i since more than a year and recently it got screwed and I had to update the software which resulted in loss of all my personal settings including contacts. Here is the step by step procedure to back up all your contacts to memory stick and restore it any time you need.

Let me make it clear, this is supported by few Sony Ericsson handsets but not all. If your mobile is not supported, we have other ways which will be blogged soon.

The advantage this way is you don’t need a computer to back up contacts. Most of the users have computers, but few are not and this article targets to that minority of people (optionally, you can backup to PC too). Also another advantage is you can backup contacts anytime anywhere without requirements of computer. Just a matter of clicks to safeguard your network.

Open Menu > Contacts > Options > Advanced > Back up to MS.

This may ask you sometimes (if you already have a backup ) to overwrite the existing one, choose Yes in that case if you want to overwrite.

To restore the same, follow the same procedure

Menu > Contacts > Options > Advanced > Restore from MS.

There is a chance that if you restore it twice, duplicate contacts will result.
