This web site at ****.com has been reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences.
Attack sites try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damange your system.
Some attack sites intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.

There were buttons to move out of the risk, or to know the reason why it has been blocked and the other one(small – at footer) to ignore this message and continue browsing.

Why are sites filtered?

There are two reasons for this: Phishing and Malware.

Phishing is something you come across rarely, but its very dangerous for careless / newbie users. Its some web page created (mostly on free platform) to steal personal informations / financial informations. Such pages usually imitate pages of Paypal or popular banks where financial transactions are involved. Those pages look exactly like the original websites, but once you enter your login credentials, they will be logged into their system and will be further used for the benefit of phishers. Till now, I have come across one such phishing page (that was brand new, not filtered by google at the time I visited) for blogger/blogspot. He used to spread the links saying blogger has decided to give away domains for users and users need to log in through the particular webpage he linked. I could easily identify that and reported the web forgery to Google.

If you ever come across such sites, please report them. Here is the procedure to report web forgery / spam sites.

Malware is what you all know and have experienced. They are tiny softwares which install on your computer to steal your informations or take any advantages otherwise. Hope you all remember Google Tips – from Antivirus 2009 – a rogue software which even infected web servers all over. Some websites do spread such malwares and hence it is not wise to visit such sites. And this is the reason those websites are blocked.

Who is responsibe for these?

Well, physhing – its definitely the owner (not domain owner in case of free sites). But malwares – owners are not always responsible for such acts, but in few cases, owners do. You all install different javascripts / ad codes – there are some ad networks which spread viruses / malwares on these ad codes. And when Google comes across such sites, they will block access on firefox. Thanks for the collaboration of Google and Firefox – users are safe. I myself have had a bitter experience when installing an ad code on a blogspot blog made Google to delete my entire blog and even I could not retreive it.

What Google will do?

Google knows it, owner is not always held responsible – they send warning mails to users at these ids: abuse@, admin@, administrator@, contact@, info@, postmaster@, support@, webmaster@domain.com. So, please be sure to have mails setup for these generic domains. Its even a wise idea to setup catch all email ids. They also popup an alert message on Webmaster Tools. And at the user end, Google try to block user from accessing it – to safeguard the users.

How to get rid of that?

First, on the firefox alert page, click on Why was this site blocked? button. You will be directed to a page which contains required information to identify the source of error which made Google to block your website, now you will be / "somehow you should" fix it.

Now, goto webmaster tools, they will popup message Parts of this site may be distributing malware – click on more details. And there you can request a review of your website providing all details about the problem and how you solved it. They will review your website soon and if your site is clear of all malware links / suspecious codes, your site will be back to normal soon.

Result:

In my friend’s case, I saw hundreds of human visits from Google IP and everything was reinstated within one day(not sure about exact hours, but for sure – not more than one day).

Result: Of course, most of the search engines point to Yahoo and Dogpile for Search Engine, but Dogpile has to accept defeat because of two reasons. It does the search by querying different search engines and secondly it does not give its own site at first

There has already been a lot of buzz going on at orkut communities about the latest hot topics in India like Elections 2009 of India and orkut blog has detailed that. Orkut new monetization policy

It has been an year that orkut has started displaying google ads, but apart from that, there had been no other monetization tricks observed there. But this is the first time, orkut has monetized in organization with Knight Riders of IPL and / or Nokia by adding a theme supporting their team along with the theme header leaving room for a link to the Kolkata Knight Riders webpage with Nokia ad featured. It is not so clear that the theme is being sponsored by either Nokia or KKR, buy orkut is surely into new mode of monetization.

One lack I observed with this is, though it is a monetized ad leading to a trusted site, orkut still asks for user permission to visit the page which is common for any other link on orkut placed by users.

Google is now down. Not down, its up. Google is now broken. Well, I am sure, problem is not just with me. Many people are facing same problem and it is sure confirmed on twitter and hashtags. Google homepage currently is loading blank pages and it is not getting redirected to country specific domain.

Well, at the time I am writing this paragraph, Google is back up. Google fixed the problem quickly.

Not just the Google search, but also other Google services like Google Calander and Google Reader were down. Gmail was working perfect. If you have missed another historic web event, you have lost the chance, its now over. Approximate time was from around 3.57pm IST to 4.00pm IST.

One weird thing during this google blank pages phenomenon is some strange code in the source. The source code of Google read:

There has not been any updates from Official Blog yet about that. Let see who was behind the scene and what went wrong with Google for the second time.

Google at their Official blog has clarified that the bug of malware warning was due to an insertion of "/" in their bad sites list. This bad sites list will be prepared by StopBadware.org and there was a human mistake in the recent list. Here is what Google’s say from Marissa Mayer.

We periodically receive updates to that list and received one such update to release on the site this morning. Unfortunately (and here’s the human error), the URL of ‘/’ was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and ‘/’ expands to all URLs.

 We maintain a list of such sites through both manual and automated methods. We work with a non-profit called StopBadware.org to come up with criteria for maintaining this list, and to provide simple processes for webmasters to remove their site from the list.

We periodically update that list and released one such update to the site this morning. Unfortunately (and here’s the human error), the URL of ‘/’ was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and ‘/’ expands to all URLs.

Then started the real blame game on internet which every active user enjoyed . Stopbadware said, its not their mistake and Google’s bad site list is generated by Google itself. Here is their statement.

This is not accurate. Google generates its own list of badware URLs, and no data that we generate is supposed to affect the warnings in Google’s search listings. We are attempting to work with Google to clarify their statement.

Note: Observe the striked out text from Google’s blog, it was made before the blog update from Stopbadware and finally Google’s blog made some corrections to the post.

I also reported of no sitelinks effect on Google organic search listings for authority sites. That was due to marking of bad site. It is normal in Google that malware affected site will not show up with sitelinks on Google search listing. This was confirmed by Matt Cutts.

Effect of Google being down:

I don’t want to say the entire internet got affected, its very well known fact. But here is some amazing math, Google’s last quarter revenue was $5.7 billion. Now divide it by 90 (days) then, divide by 24 (hours). This gives the Google’s revenue per hour as $2.639 million. So, do you think Google lost that much amount? Not exactly is the case. I have already confirmed that ONLY ORGANIC / NATURAL LISTING GOT AFFECTED – NOT SPONSORED. So, Google’s that revenue has been partly recovered by those sponsored listings.

The real sufferers are those who get decent traffic from Google. Even traffic for my blog was also stopped at that time. Also, those people with sponsored listings. The click rate on sponsored results on Google search pages have naturally gone high and all traffic they got is those traffic which feared to click on natural listings. Most of it is not useful. They paid for waste non converting traffic.

Who got benefited?

Its me! Frankly, I got some decent traffic from Yahoo onto my old posts related with Google. Especially the post which discussed rogue software antivirus 2009. By this time, certainly Yahoo and other search engines might have got good traffic and benefited. I had never seen such a Yahoo traffic to my blog in the past. Google trends recorded a volcanic traffic for the term "Google this site may harm your computer".

This is the hot hot news of last 5 minutes. I was googling for some ringtones and suddently found Google saying "This site may harm your computer". This was the same with all natural search results on Google.

Not just one site, it was the case with each and every keyword / url I searched. Instant updates these days can be found on twitter and I found the same thing with twitter search. The twitter search is getting great heat with about 100+ related twitter updates per minute.

Google also says for google.com – "This site may harm your computer". Such results are usually found for sites which may affect your computer with malwares.

Horrible Google, this is the first time I am noticing such bug with you.

Not just this bug, there is one more bug, all sitelinks are gone. Whatever the authority site you search, no sitelinks could be found. All sitelinks have been vanished for the time being.

Clicking on any result in natural listing resulted in the following page for malware warnings.

Clicking on Google Safe Browsing Diagnostic Page for any site resulted in 502 Server Error.

This effect is only on natural listings but not on sponsored listings of Search results.

Here is what the case with different authority sites.

All webmasters now take rest. No traffic from Google till this bug is fixed.
