1. With backup contacts available as file

If you have a backup of contacts from previous phone / email program, you can easily insert that entire phone book into your phone. You can try SE contact backup / restore method to carry out the process. or use Float’s Mobile Agent tool and import the contacts and synchronize with phone as shown in the image below. In the course, you may need some tools like CSV to vCard Converter.

2. When contacts are not available as files

This requires some sort of work, but typing on a PC keyboard is a lot easier than typing on mobile keypad. Again use the same Float’s Mobile Agent to add contacts and don’t forget to synchronize later. In the above screenshot, the right click context menu shows you the option to add New Person. You can enter all details on that and click Synchronize To > Phone Address Book.

Compass for J2ME works on all mobile phones with Java support. 1. Location: If you know the exact airport code of  your nearest airport, you may use that. You may also enter the latitude / longitude. If you are not clear on that, a random placement of location by moving your arrows will work as the time zone is usually one per country.

2. Time Zone: After you enter the location, you will be asked with time zones based on location. This one should be entered correctly as you know the right one.

You may later enter the name to save the location.

Time and date will be automatically extracted from your mobile phone date, time settings.

Next, goto More > Options > Here you get a number of options which you need to set. Take care to note what you have set for "screen top points" – as you are expected to be in a remote place, it should be sun / moon.

After all the setting is done, your screen will be redrawn. Now, hold your mobile as you had set previously in screen faces and screen top points – you will find a correct North and South direction with most accuracy. Try it at a familiar place to get set to use this tiny useful app.

There is one secret menu in the Sony Ericsson phone which most of the users are not aware of. It can be accessed with a serial key press in a specific order (secret code). Here we go:

Press > * < <  * < * . If you cannot follow the symbols, please have a look at the following figure and you will understand.

Once you press this key sequence, you will be presented with a menu which has options like Service Info, Service Tests and Text Labels. Select Service Tests. Now you are up with the menu to test different components of your phone. Different components are tested different way and you will not find it difficult to carry over the process.

Mjoy is the online tool which is under discussion. This service is powered by adverts and hence is completely free. To make use of this service, you need to register to the site with your mobile phone. This is only for those who have cell phones as you can only sign up and login on your mobiles. GPRS is also required for using this service.

Coming on to special features, there is no limit for the characters you type. Usual sms services provide you with somewhere around 80-140 characters. The interface is such that the messages are stored similar to chat interface. With this, you can also backup contacts online. And hence the chances of losing your contacts is less as you have them saved online. They also claim to have a network which few may love to have. They also provide you with games and widgets.

Note: This is not for you if you don’t have a GPRS enabled mobile phone.

Let me make it clear, this is supported by few Sony Ericsson handsets but not all. If your mobile is not supported, we have other ways which will be blogged soon.

The advantage this way is you don’t need a computer to back up contacts. Most of the users have computers, but few are not and this article targets to that minority of people (optionally, you can backup to PC too). Also another advantage is you can backup contacts anytime anywhere without requirements of computer. Just a matter of clicks to safeguard your network.

Open Menu > Contacts > Options > Advanced > Back up to MS.

This may ask you sometimes (if you already have a backup ) to overwrite the existing one, choose Yes in that case if you want to overwrite.

To restore the same, follow the same procedure

Menu > Contacts > Options > Advanced > Restore from MS.

There is a chance that if you restore it twice, duplicate contacts will result.
