Apart from writing a good article there are many other things that need to be taken care for a blog post and image optimization is one of them. There is nothing much to be done to optimize your images and it just takes few seconds. The main things for image optimization are proper name for the image, alt tag and proper positioning.

Important Points for Image Optimization:

SEO Friendly Image Names : The first you have to do is to rename the file with proper name. "image001.jpg" or "DSC001.jpg" doesn’t make sense for the search engine. If your image is related to a mobile renaming it something like "Nokia-5800-Front-View" makes sense. Search Engines cannot read the image to find what it is, instead they read the image name and otehr things like alt tag, surronding text etc to get more information about the image. So do rename your images to something meaningful and relevant to the current context.

Use Effective Alt Tag : Alt Tag will give more information about the image to the search engine. You have to use better text and keywords thus helping the search engine to know more about the image. For example if you have got a mobile realted image you can have the alt tag as – alt="Nokia Slim 5800 Mobile Side View" rather than – alt="mobile".

Proper Placement of Images : Search engines usually read the text surrounding the image to know more about it. So we need to take care in placing the image near to the relevant content. For example, if you are writing an article with general mobile trends in market in the first paragraph and then about a specific mobile in the last paragraph, it makes more sense to place the mobile related image closer to the last paragraph.

Using Relevant Anchor Text : When you are trying to use anchor text to link images, it is always a better idea to use text that is more relevant to the images. It would be better to use "Click Here for Nokia Mobile Images" or "Nokia 5800 Pictures" rather than using "Click Here".

If you keep the above points in your mind you will definitely get good amount of traffic from the image search results. You can always check for the total indexed images of your website by typing "site:yoursite.com" in "http://images.google.com". Google also suggests users to use JPEG rather than other formats. Also use hyphens (-) instead of unserscores (_) between words of the image. Finally if you are using images from other sites, rename the image and change the dimensions to avoid image duplication issues.

As I guess most of you have submitted your valuable opinions and suggestions, I would like to share what I suggested them and would like the feedback from you readers as this can influence Google’s Adsense team in some way and favoring thousands of Adsense aspiring webmasters and bloggers.

Adsense is an unmatched industry leader in online advertising and every budding webmaster / blogger / internet marketer wants to be an Adsense publisher, but getting an Adsense account these days is a very difficult task. I see many of my online friends and readers who run a successful blog are still waiting for an AS account.

Disadvantages of no Adsense account for budding webmasters:

• Publisher may lose interest in content generation – growth of an aspiring person is affected.
• He/She may join some unethical ad networks and finally comes into conclusion that all ad networks (including Adsense) are fraud. This is the current state of survey sites – though there are good survey earning opportunities, users always try to keep away from them.
• As account applications get rejected for NO REASON, the real address of the publisher gets blocked. They can’t change their home just to get a new address for Adsense account. Same with phone number, website etc.
• As blogging is a growing career option, it gets tough to choose blogging as profession if they don’t have an Adsense account. Most of the content / news websites depend mainly on Adsense for revenues.
• Anyone can lose patience for resubmitting the same application form again and again for more than 15 times. Result of this can give raise to ad networks which don’t have a sole existence, but serve Adsense ads to fill their ad inventory. The publisher who has to get the entire revenue will start getting a small percentage of what he exactly earns. I am sure Google cannot be happy with this

The above are the reasons I could think while writing the post. The solution is ADSENSE TRIAL ACCOUNT. Though they have not assigned me a job of designing such a system, I wish such trial accounts come true in short future.

Google Adsense Trial Accounts

• These accounts are short lived Adsense accounts of a test span of say 7-15 days.
• Users can directly sign up for an account and get complete access instantly.
• Ads are served as normal, but not paid. Hope everyone is happy to run Adsense ads for free if they can get an approved Adsense account.
• Complete statistics like impressions, clicks, CTR, eCPM and earnings (eCPM and earnings are those they could get if it were an approved account, right now, they are just displayed, but not paid).
• After the trial period is over, users get notification through mail / Adsense reports page if their account is approved or not.
• No need to change tags after approval, but if rejected, you are welcome to remove the tags.

What Google do behind the scene?

Algorithm + bots decide if an account needs to be approved. Bots can identify whether the content is suitable or inappropriate according to Adsense policies. Google in the mean time gets complete details about site traffic, demography, user behavior and other required stats which influence account approval process. Only in few particular cases, a staff review can be expected.

All shared web hosting plans have limits over system resources like CPU, memory, number of database connections etc. Though they provide unlimited disk space and bandwidth, you will be limited based on resource usage by your websites. If your website starts using too much of resources, then they suspend your websites in order to facilitate the smooth working of other websites hosted on your server. Web hosts like Blue Host etc provide statistics of CPU Throttling errors and few hosts does not provide any such details.

If you use WordPress blogs and suffer from CPU over usage problems on your server, here are few possible solutions.

Plugins: Plugins add great functionality to WP blogs, but at the other end a badly coded plugin can eat up the server like anything. As the WP itself is a server resource eater and increasing number of plugins will naturally take up most of the server resources like CPU and memory. Try to reduce number of plugins as well as plugins that consume much resources. If it is tough for you to identify bad plugins, head over to WP forums and experts are there to help you.

Theme: Not in every case, but sometimes the theme can turn your enemy and contribute in blog suspension. If you are using a theme which uses too much resources, its time to change that to a server optimized wordpress theme.

WP SuperCache: Here came the most important part you must try before trying anything else. Most of us use a caching plugin for WP, try increasing its duration of storing cached content which in other words can be called as Expiry Time & Garbage Collection in terms of Super Cache. You may need to increase it based on your CPU throttling, but don’t forget to check not to cache for logged in users.

There are many ways to test the speed of a website,

Absolute way to check website speed (comparing against fast servers)

This is when your server performance wrt speed is determined. Here your website speed performance is determined based on how much time it takes to transfer the specific amount of data. In simple terms, the speed is measured as seconds per KB. Let me tell you this way of measuring website speed is definitely inaccurate. You need to see the exact load time and not per KB transfer time.

If you have x seconds per KB transfer rate and your pages are 0.5MB in average, your load time is 512x seconds, but your competitor on a poor server with 2x transfer rate and pages averaging at 100KB will perform faster at 200x seconds.

There is another reason to say these are inaccurate – they just measure the transfer rate and not website loading time you should also remember that your web pages comprise of not just html codes, but it is many times made up with php, javascript which requires some time for execution. Another agent which slows your sites are ads which you place on your sites – they depend on third party server to deliver ads and they consume much time which might not be measured with such tools.

Practically testing Website speed performance (Relative speed testing)

After knowing the faults with above testing method, let’s learn how exactly should it be done for measuring website speed. There are two methods I could figure out at the moment.

1. YSlow – Website Speed Testing

Yslow is a Firefox addon which works in integration with Firebug – a popular tool for web developers. If you keep it on while loading a webpage, it calculates the time taken to load the page and the page size and displays the same in your Firefox status bar. This is the most easy way which even works when you are offline developing site on local server.

2. Online website speed test tool

Stopwatch is a tool which helps you measure the website loading time in your bandwidth. The speed measured with this tool is relative to your internet speed available at the moment when you perform test. If you measure internet speed and test two sites’ speed, you will know which is relatively faster. And that relative speed in performance should be same on every internet connection.

Another great advice on tweaking website for faster performance is by reducing and optimizing website images.

Conclusion: The transfer rates of any site/server should be the very good, but at the same time the size of web pages should be less to make your website perform the best.

It becomes a foolish act to simply use the fax services available for free for whatever the purpose you find. There are few serious tips to be considered before sending your fax to anyone who requests it online.

1. There are many spammers who mail you telling that you won / business partnering / some help to invest in your country and request you to send your driving license / passport / voters id or anything through fax / email. Never respond them through free faxing or emails.

2. Some bank mail ids (including Paypal) request you to send a copy of passbook along with your internet banking account login id and password. 3. Never fax anyone just for testing: Few people have a good habit of testing everything they get. But that good habit can prick you in bad times if the one who received your inappropriate fax is an influential person and reverse checks your number and details. Indeed its a bad idea to setup auto responders if you have subscription to any web services / blog updates. At the end, you will be the loser.

6. Review the "Privacy Policy": Most of the internet users are not aware about an almost compulsory page called "Privacy Policy" which discloses how your data is handled. If you find anything fishy in free faxing service, its better to avoid it. There are many other trusted ones to try. They might use statements like your faxed documents might be stored for study purposes. Do you wish your passport / GF photo be studied by those services?

7. Never fax acquaintances: Its too risky to fax from your fax number to the one whom you met in some stranger chat service especially those e-wh0res whom you met on a dating forum.

8. Avoid sending online fax at work: Most of the companies/ offices monitor users’ activities while online, its better to avoid online faxing at office.

9. Don’t save fax mail id in contacts: This can be useful if some malware hides in your system and sends automatic mails to everyone on your contact list. This is based on assumption that your faxing service also accepts mail based faxing apart from web interface fax sending.

10. Use telephones / email / traditional fax service for tooooo sensitive information. Its tough to trust anyone online if it comes to super confidential matters.

One way to improve visual area is by hiding Firefox title bar which can make use of unused title bar space on Firefox. Recently I discovered another FF addon which helps you in the same way but at an opposite end. Now, I am talking about hiding the status bar which is mostly of no use for many internet users. Though webmasters might find it useful for other addons, normal end users have no value of status bar.

autoHideStatusbar is a FF addon that helps you hide your inactive useless status / loading bar when it is not in use. The addon has multiple options to help you choose when it needs to be displayed and when should it be made hidden. This also has filtering options for specific sites. Also, you don’t need to bother while you visit a site, the default option is to display the status bar when you hover on a link for 1s which you can set to show always or when pressing Ctrl.

This is a special gift for those who use small screen notebooks / netbooks as those have the least viewing area and some unneeded portion is being occupied by FF default toolbars.
